You know? Those gym leaders really aren't so hard.

I mean, I've barely battled in my time here, and yet I walked in and managed to walk away with this:

And I don't mean to brag, but Whitney? She didn't shed a tear.

[Those of you in and around Goldenrod may see Barney wandering around today with Whitney on his arm. While he's not treating it like a date, she certainly is, and couldn't be happier. Barney in the meantime, looks exhausted. It's been a very long date complete with shopping, training pokemon, and Barney taking her to the game corner, and then dinner on top of that.

The price of getting a gym badge.

During Dinner, Ted the Totodile will getting a hold of the gear, and accidentally uploading a video to the network. It is a video of Barney's win. Which is mostly pure luck as Barney is yelling out a flurry of confusing commands and his pokemon scrambling to obey. Most noticeable is Barney's Ledyba, who just flat out ignores Barney in favor of winning in it's own way.

Really, any trainer who takes this seriously would be offended. But that's not going to stop Barney from being smug about it.]

[Well, it's not everyday you get a Gym Leader at the Game Corner - at least Ren hasn't seen any during the time he's been working there. Though she seems to be with someone. Ah... another one of those challengers, is he?

Instead of actually going to talk to Whitney, Ren will approach Barney instead. The guy looks pretty exhausted so he figured he might need some other company.]

You have no idea. She has limitless energy, I swear!

[But still, he waves over at Whitney, who has having a blast playing voltorb flip.]

I think I can imagine, at least. [He's had so many dates in his life. Some of them have been pretty exhausting.] Though having this much energy isn't always a bad thing.

I guess not, but I'd just like to keep up with her.

[He sighs.]

I hate to admit it but I might be getting old.

I wouldn't say it's an issue of age. I've seen many young guys fall after just one shopping trip with a lady.

When it comes to me, I usually last longer than this.

But how many dresses do you need to try on?

[Ren looks amused.]

For women, it's important to find the perfect thing to wear. You could easily think of it as, for example, the same as guys wanting to buy the perfect car and so they test all of them before making a decision.

But that's why you go for personalized service. Someone like a tailor gets to know you inside and out, and can provide you exactly with what you need.

It would be nice if it would be that easy. Unfortunately women seem to enjoy shopping and finding their clothes on their own unless it's an important dress.

That's probably the one thing I've never understood about women. The need to do stuff like that.

It's like my opinion doesn't even matter.

Yet they drag you with you to all the shops. I guess the only thing we're good for is to carry their belongings.

[There's only amusement in the way he speaks.]

Well, it's one way to work out at least.

That, and it somehow makes the women happy.

I guess it does. And that's what matters, isn't it?

[There is a touch of sarcasm to his words.]

Gotcha. I know a few Japanese guys here. And dated a few Japanese girls in my time.

I've met a few myself as well... even if we're probably not from the same worlds anyway.

I see. I guess Goldenrod is nothing compared to a city like that.

It's the closest thing I've found to home. Still, kind of a backwater, but not as bad as New Bark Town or Cherrygrove City.

[As Barney finishes up his post, Larry'll be right by him practically in tears.]

Barney. Bro. I'm so proud of you!

[It's like baby's first gym badge or something.]

Hey, I taught him well. His namesake would be able to do the exact same thing.

Oh, everything he knows. How to pick up girls, how to change a tire, how to give high fives, the bro code, you know, the important stuff.

It was a few well placed compliments that resulted in a date.

Getting her not to cry?

And I say it wasn't bribery so I guess we're stuck.
