[Barney has just arrived in New Bark Town after leaving the hospital in New York. (ie; walking through the doors brought him here). He has received his trainer orientation, but is still confused. He's tried to use the pokegear to call home, but it's not working, and he accidentally left it on]

Okay….this is not what I was expecting when I got out of the hospital. I expected the streets of New York! Not some dumpy backwards town in the middle of nowhere. How’d I even get here? The hospital was still in the city.

It doesn’t even look like there’s even a bar here. A town without a bar! This sucks. It sucks beyond suck. I don’t even have a suit, that’s how much it sucks. Marshall, this better not be a dumb joke or something! Same to you, Ted!

[there’s a pause, as he notices his Totodile gazing up at him]

What do you want, bro? [another pause] Oh, heh, this thing's on.

So, what sort of stuff is there to do around here? You been here a while?+

I have been, yeah! Mostly there's just traveling and training your pokémon. And catching more. If that's not really your thing, you can always pick up a job in one of the towns.

That doesn't really sound like my thing. What kind of jobs? I mean, I had an awesome one back home, but might as well make some money here.

Uhhh, mostly just working at the pokémarts and inns in the various towns, I think. I'm not really sure, I worked part-time at a mart for a week so I'd have enough money to restock for traveling.

So, retail? Shoot, I thought I'd outgrown that.

It's all I really heard was available. You could probably ask around when you get to Cherrygrove.

I'll make sure to do that. How does one get to Cherrygrove? [What kind of name for a town is that?, he is wondering]

Walking.

For three days.

[long, long, loooong pause. You have got to be kidding him, Sora, got to be. Sure he walks pretty much everywhere in New York, but New York is not the woods.]

You're kidding me right? I mean, there's a lot of people here. They can't expect EVERYONE to walk 3 days through the woods? That's inhumane!

People have pokémon to protect them! And I guess they're all used to it. There's kind of a trail, but there's not even really a road from New Bark to Cherrygrove.

I was right. This sucks. Guess I have no choice but to start walking.

Totodile?

At least your pokémon can protect you!

I guess so.

And at least you're not doing the walk from Cherrygrove to Violet right away! That one's about a week.

Even better. It's probably a good thing I don't have a suit right now. It'd just get ruined.

Yeah, probably. Did you get a backpack? There should be a change of clothing in there.

I haven't checked inside the backpack. I'll make sure to do that.
